Scotscape is a company from the UK that provides award-winning and innovative green infrastructure services. They create living walls, pillars, and other green elements for landscaping and interiors to bring the benefits of nature into urban environments.

Challenge

The variety of plants are grown in a specially-designed panel system that allows them to be easily installed and maintained. Aside from being a unique design element, Scotscape's living walls help to improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. They also provide insulation, which can help to reduce energy costs and improve the overall efficiency of buildings. In addition, living walls provide a calming and soothing environment, which can improve mental health and well-being.

Scotscape needed to enhance their product with an IoT solution to automate the maintenance of plants and enable real-time monitoring of soil conditions. They decided to pack new functionality into an intuitive mobile app and a web dashboard.

Among their key goals were:

Blynk IoT platform was chosen for the handy mobile app builder, advanced IoT device management and core IoT functionality off-the-shelf.

Blynk Business plan covered software needs for Scotscape. The primary use cases include no-code automations, WiFi device provisioning and activation by the end user, and collecting and visualizing real-time data. A packaged solution Blynk.Edgent allowed the Scotscape team to set up a user-friendly device activation and provisioning flow without any additional development on the back end.

As part of the commercial IoT solution Blynk was used to:

Set up a dedicated business cloud server
Set up a multi-tenant user administration system with granular permissions
Set up necessary notifications and alerts
Configure web and mobile dashboards for device management and data visualization
Create branded themes for the web Console and apps
Publishing Scotscape iOS and Android mobile apps to the app stores.

All of the above was done with the support of a dedicated launch engineer.
