New Blynk IoT platform now supports Seeed’s Wio Terminal

For those of you who don’t know Seeed - it’s a hardware innovation platform for makers that provides open technology and agile manufacturing services with a mission to make hardware more accessible and lower the threshold for hardware innovation.

Since Seeed released Wio Terminal in 2020, it's been great to see good feedback from the community covering a wide range of applications from IoT to Machine Learning. Wio Terminal is a fully integrated microcontroller platform powered by the powerful Microchip ATSAMD51 with ARM Cortex-M4F core clocked at 120MHz. Wio Terminal system is equipped with Screen + Development Board + Input/Output Interface + Enclosure, making it efficient and product ready. Users can easily interact with Wio Terminal via Blynk using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

We're excited to partner with Seeed and bring the latest Blynk platform support on Wio Terminal.

With Wio Terminal, you can:

  • Sense and tag the Real-World data with over 300 Groves created by Seeed
  • Easily build TinyML applications with Edge Impulse
  • Use 100% open-source hardware
  • Build your program interpreter with an LCD screen and compact enclosure

Wio Terminal is also a great device for prototyping of TinyML applications.

Here are some of the key features of Wio Terminal:

  • Can be mounted to a Raspberry Pi as a slave device
  • Raspberry Pi's HAT can be used with an adapter cable
  • Ready for Embedded Machine Learning
  • By utilizing Wio Terminal and Edge Impulse, we can "teach old sensors new tricks".
  • Powerful MCU: Microchip ATSAMD51P19 with ARM Cortex-M4F core running at 120MHz
  • Reliable Wireless Connectivity: Equipped with Realtek RTL8720DN, dual-band 2.4GHz / 5GHz Wi-Fi (supported only by Arduino)
  • Highly Integrated Design: 2.4” LCD Screen, IMU and more practical add-ons housed in a compact enclosure with built-in magnets & mounting holes
  • Raspberry Pi 40-pin Compatible GPIO
  • Compatible with over 300 plug&play Grove modules
  • USB OTG Support
  • Supports Arduino, CircuitPython, Micropython, ArduPy(What is ArduPy?), AT Firmware, Visual Studio Code
  • TELEC certificated

How to connect Wio Terminal to Blynk IoT platform

To connect your Wio Terminal to Blynk, all you need is an iOS or Android Mobile phone with the Blynk App installed. You can follow this step-by-step guide on connecting your Wio Terminal to Blynk.

In this article, Dmitry from Seeed explained how to achieve anomaly detection for predictive maintenance with the new Blynk IoT Platform and also learn TinyML using Wio Terminal and Arduino IDE.

Go to Blynk web dashboard and create a new account. Then create a new template – templates are digital models of the device which can be inherited by multiple devices with similar functionality. The power of templates is an instant update of the device data model no matter the size of your device fleet. Follow the guide and see how easy it is to connect Blynk to Wio Terminal to create your next IoT application!

Hope you enjoy using the powerful duo of Blynk and Wio Terminal. And don’t forget to send us examples of your work - we’d love to share it with our community!
