OMIS: Connected Crane and App for Everyone Behind It

Industrial lifting equipment with nearly 60 years of history, now backed by a branded app that connects owners, maintenance teams and distributors directly to OMIS.

OMIS is an Italian lifting equipment maker founded in Sandrigo in 1967, with production in Italy, Brazil and India. It designs, builds and installs overhead cranes, jib cranes, gantry cranes and hoists, and its service teams run more than 1,500 maintenance contracts and 9,000 interventions a year.

OMIS customers are industrial companies that run cranes inside their own plants. Once a system is installed, keeping it safe and productive becomes a shared job between the customer’s maintenance staff and the OMIS service network, which offers scheduled maintenance, emergency assistance, revamping, spare parts and operator training.

When a Crane Stops, the Whole Floor Stops

In steel, paper and fabrication plants, almost every load passes under an overhead crane. When one goes down, the problem lands on several people at once:

  • The plant owner loses production time while material can't be moved
  • The maintenance team has to diagnose a machine working overhead, often without the right documentation at hand
  • The distributor or service partner has to respond fast with the right parts and information for that model
  • OMIS carries the brand reputation on a machine it no longer sees once installed

‍

OMIS wanted to solve several challenges at once:

  • Give equipment owners a direct line to OMIS experts and service teams
  • Put product documentation and technical resources in the hands of maintenance staff on site
  • Equip distributors and partners with consistent product information across markets
  • Serve customers in their own language across Europe, Latin America and North Africa
  • Keep the OMIS brand front and center for the whole life of the equipment

‍

From the Website to the Shop Floor

OMIS already shared a lot online: a product configurator, an FAQ service centre and a download area for customers. But the people who need answers most are standing next to the equipment, phone in hand. The team at OMIS Brasil took the lead, choosing Blynk to give them branded mobile and web apps so its engineers could stay focused on cranes.

The Solution: One App for the Whole Equipment Lifecycle

OMIS built OMIS Connect solution on the Blynk IoT platform. Blynk supplied the cloud backend, user management and native app framework, so OMIS could launch a connected solution with web and mobile applications without building that infrastructure from scratch.

Hardware: OMIS proprietary device
Software: Blynk IoT Platform, Enterprise Plan, branded iOS and Android apps
Languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German

OMIS Connect is designed to support the full lifecycle of OMIS lifting equipment:

  • Live crane condition: load limiter, plus current, frequency, voltage, power and torque for hoist, trolley and crane travel
  • Usage and history: operating hours, starts per hour and trends going back three months
  • Fault logs: recent faults and events, such as undervoltage, recorded as they happen
  • Documentation and technical resources for the full OMIS product range, on any phone
  • Direct contact with OMIS experts and service teams

The app serves crane owners, maintenance and service personnel, distributors and engineers. For a technician standing under a crane, that means live data, documentation and a direct line to OMIS service in one pocket.

Why Blynk Worked for OMIS

Scales with the fleet and everyone around it. OMIS Connect runs on infrastructure designed for large device fleets, so the solution grows reliably alongside the OMIS installed base. Robust multi-tenant user management gives owners, technicians, distributors and OMIS service teams their own view, with access to exactly the cranes they are responsible for.

‍

Ready-made infrastructure, out of the box. Cloud hosting, device management, dashboards, charts, event logs, notifications and white-label apps came ready to use, with built-in localization for 5 languages. OMIS could focus on its cranes, not on building a software platform.

‍

One app for everything around the crane. Live drive data, usage history, fault logs, product documentation and a direct line to OMIS service all sit in OMIS Connect, on web and mobile, instead of separate tools for monitoring, support and sales.

Looking Ahead

OMIS Connect gives OMIS a direct channel that stays with the customer long after the crane is installed. With a thousand units live today and a fleet that keeps growing, OMIS can bring new capabilities to crane owners and service teams in the same app they already use.

Choosing to work with you was undoubtedly the best decision.
