NB-IoT satellite connectivity over Deutsche Telekom’s network is now directly integrated into Blynk. Companies can build a working IoT product on a Nordic nRF9151 within minutes. To support first deployments, 30 pre-configured development kits are available free of charge.

Deutsche Telekom IoT and Blynk are bringing satellite IoT from proof of concept into production. The NB-IoT satellite integration announced this spring is now live. Devices that connect via Deutsche Telekom’s network over cellular or satellite now land directly in a ready-to-use Blynk application — including dashboards, native mobile apps, and fleet management. No dedicated backend needs to be built in between.

As a global IoT aggregator, Deutsche Telekom IoT brings together terrestrial connectivity, NTN satellite services, device-to-cloud capabilities, and partner solutions such as Blynk. This gives companies easy access to scalable IoT solutions that can be developed, tested, and brought into production faster.

The integration is designed for applications where assets move beyond the limits of traditional cellular coverage: containers spending weeks at sea, trailers dropping off the cellular map between cities, or machinery, livestock, and equipment operating far from the nearest tower. Until now, keeping these assets connected often meant accepting blackout periods or adding dedicated satellite hardware.

Deutsche Telekom’s NB-IoT satellite connectivity uses NTN technology to extend standard NB-IoT beyond terrestrial networks. A single low-power device can send data over cellular where coverage is available and switch to satellite where no terrestrial connection exists. For periodic status updates, the satellite behaves like another cell tower — except it is in orbit.

From signal to product — without building a backend

Connecting a device is only the first step. A market-ready IoT product also needs provisioning, data ingestion, storage, dashboards, mobile applications, notifications, field updates, and fleet management. Especially with emerging connectivity standards, building this infrastructure from scratch can add months to development timelines.

This is where the joint solution from Deutsche Telekom IoT and Blynk comes in. Deutsche Telekom IoT provides connectivity, Blynk delivers the low-code application layer on top. Data sent over Deutsche Telekom’s network — whether cellular or satellite — arrives in Blynk as structured datastreams and is automatically mapped through Data Converters.

From there, teams can use the standard Blynk environment: dashboards, native mobile apps, alerts and automations, over-the-air updates, role-based access, and fleet management for every device in the field.

The reference setup is based on a Nordic nRF9151 connected through Deutsche Telekom’s NB-IoT satellite connectivity into Blynk. A ready-made blueprint handles the Blynk side: the device template, datastreams, and starter dashboard are already configured. Teams do not start from a blank page, but from a working application.

For developers already familiar with Blynk, the application layer remains unchanged. Only the connectivity underneath expands. Unlike store-and-forward satellite networks, the path is near real time: data typically travels from device to dashboard in 8 to 20 seconds.

For assets operating far beyond traditional network coverage — often carrying business-critical cargo or data — this combination is decisive. Data arrives quickly, while the production-ready infrastructure for managing entire device fleets is already in place.

Get started with a free development kit

To support teams building on this capability now, Deutsche Telekom IoT and Blynk are giving away 30 pre-configured kits. Each kit includes a Nordic nRF9151 with a Deutsche Telekom SIM and six months of Blynk Prototype. Hardware, connectivity, and the application layer are ready from the moment the kit arrives.

Power on the device, take it outside with a clear view of the sky, and the first data can reach a dashboard and mobile app within minutes.

Each kit is a head start on a real product. Teams can build an asset tracker, logistics monitor, remote sensor, or other connected solution and test the full path from device to dashboard before committing to a production connectivity stack.

Recipients will be selected on a rolling basis, with particular interest in teams planning concrete production IoT deployments.

Built for connectivity anywhere

Anytime, anywhere — always connected with T IoT.

For IoT products that need to operate beyond the edge of network coverage, the core building blocks are now in place: global connectivity, satellite-enabled NB-IoT, and a production-ready application layer.

Get started free, follow the getting-started guide, and register for one of the 30 pre-configured kits while they are available.
